Obstacle Course Racing: Abahan, Merisco go 1-2 for Philippines in women’s individual 5K race

LOS BAÑOS, Philippines—Sandi Abahan and Glorien Merisco captured the top two spots in the women’s five-kilometer, 20-obstacle individual race of the Southeast Asian Games at Filinvest City in Muntinlupa on Friday.

Abahan took the gold after she finished the course in 33 minutes and 30 seconds.

Merisco the captured the silver after she crossed the finish line in exactly 40 minutes.

Khamla Sorvimane of Laos won the bronze after she clocked in at 55:27.

Two racers, Malaysia’s Hui Teng Yip and Laos’ Keoduangdee Souksanguan, actually finished the race faster than Sorvimane, but the two were disqualified after failing to clear some obstacles, paving the way for Sorvimane to breach the podium.
