LOS ANGELES — Like bees to a pollen, stars attract stars.
Such was the case on Saturday afternoon here in the city of angels where NBA guard Jordan Clarkson and singer Apl.De Ap made the familiar beeline to the Wild Card gym to visit ring icon and current Philippine senator Manny Pacquiao.
The 32-year old Clarkson plays for the Utah Jazz and won the league’s Sixth Man of the Year award this past season by averaging 18.4 points, 4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game off the bench.
The 6-foo4, 194-pound Clarkson is a star in his own right.
But at the sweatshop where the 42-year old Pacquiao, boxing’s onlyeight-division champ, is currently training the former Los Angeles Laker was reduced into an ager fan.
“The goat, legendary!” JC enthused in his social media post where he shared a photo of him and the former pound-for-pound king.
In what is expected to be a fight for the ages between young lion and a longtime dominant champion, Pacquiao will face undefeated fellow welterweight Errol Spence on August 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Clarkson also took pictures with Manny Pacquiao Promotions President Sean Gibbons, his son Brandan, and WBO bantamweight champion Johnriel Casimero, who will square off with Guillermo Rigondeaux this August 14 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Christened as Allan Pineda Lindo whose mother hails from Pampanga, Apl De Ap rose to stardom as a member of the hip hop group Black Eyed Peas. He would later become a producer, advocate and philantrophist.
