MANILA — Jerwin Ancajas’ scheduled defense of his IBF junior bantamweight title on Sunday (Philippine Time) will not take place anymore as Top Rank announced on Friday (Philippine Time) the cancellation of his bout against Mexican challenger Jonathan Rodriguez.
In a statement, Top Rank said Rodriguez encountered visa issues while he was set to depart for Carson, California, prompting the said promotion to call off the bout.
Ancajas, in a statement posted on his social media account, was saddened by the news that his bout, which would have the eighth defense of his belt, will not push through anymore.
“Sa lahat po sa sumusuporta sa Team Ancajas, humihingi po kami ng pasensya hindi po matuloy ang laban ko (To the supporters of Team Ancajas, we want to apologize for the fight not pushing through),” Ancajas said.
However, he added that he is looking to the positives of the postponement of the match.
“Siguro may mas magandang plano pa ang Panginoon bat di natuloy ang laban (Probably God has better plans that’s why the fight did not push through),” he added. (PNA)
