Athletes, para-athletes receive their Sinovac vaccine

An estimated number of 570 athletes, para-athletes and coaches bound for Tokyo Olympics, SEA Games, Tokyo Paralympics, ASEAN Para Games and other international competitions got their first dose or second of Sinovac vaccine.

Also included in the vaccination program organized by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) were officials and sports media at the Manila Prince Hotel.

Among those who took their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine were wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan, wushu star Agatha Wong, sepak takraw prodigy Elly Jan Nituda, national MTB cycling champion Ariana Dormitorio, BMX rider Renz Viaje and Tennis player Marian Capadocia.

Other notable athletes present at the vaccination programe were the teams of Kickboxing, Handball, Volleyball, Judo, Muaythai and Sepaktakraw who currently preparing or undergoing training bubble in the provinces beginning next month.

Aside from athletes, sportswriters also took part in the POC’s vaccination drive, including Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports president Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight and TOPS member Edwin Rollon of Pilipino Mirror.

The vaccination program is the Philippine Olympic Committee’s answer to the “No Vaccine, No Participation” policy being implemented by the organizers in the Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam later this year.

Earlier, Olympic-bound pole vault specialist EJ Obiena decided to defer his vaccination to August, as he prepares for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
