December 9, 2019 – The Philippines go for five gold medals and a silver on the finals matches of men’s boxing at the PICC Forum Monday.
It was the last bout that seals the deal, with Eumir Marcial finishing his opponent in just the first round.
Marcial wasted no time and knocked out Nguyen Manh Cuong from Vietnam to earn the gold medal in a stunning fashion, much to the hype of the local crowd.
Carlo Paalam bids hello to a gold medal after defeating Indonesia’s Kornelis Kwangu Langu by points.
Paalam won all three rounds to four of the judges, while one scored 29-28 for the Filipino.
Roger Ladon earned the gold medal after a more physical bout with Thailand’s Ammarit Yaodam.
Ladon got a 30 in all five judges, while Yaodam received a 25 score from one of the jury.
Timor-Leste boxer Jose Quintas da Silva earned the bronze medal to the cheer of the Filipino fans at the venue.
James Palicte also reigned supreme jn the men’s welterweight division, beating down Vietnamese opponent Nguyen Van Hai.
It was a rowdy bout for veteran Charly Suarez, who competed for gold in the men’s lightweight category.
Suarez beat Thai boxer Khunatip Pidnuch via unanimous decision, getting yet another gold for the host country.
Marjon Piañar meanwhile took the silver medal after losing all three rounds to Thai boxer Wuttichai Masuk.
Masuk was superior to the host’s bet, winning two rounds or more from the five judges.
