Vegas odds put Mark Magsayo slightly ahead of Rey Vargas

CLEVELAND — WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo of the Philippines is a slight favorite to retain his title against challenger Rey Vargas of Mexico.

Per multiple boxing websites, Magsayo is a -139 favorite, meaning a $139 bet on him only yields a $100 profit. Magsayo, 27, fights under the banner of Manny Pacquiao Promotions and is trained by Hall-of-Famer Freddie Roach of the Wild Card Gym.

Vergas, meanwhile, isn’t necessarily an underdog. The 31-year old from Otumba, Mexico is at an even odds, which means a $100 wager on him will only win just $100.

The Magsayo-Vargas tiff, a Showtime offering, is one of the most anticipated fights this year, a battle between two of the hardest punchers in the division. It takes place at the Alamodome this Saturday.(Sunday morning, July 10, in the Philippines)(RA)
