LOS ANGELES — A rejuvenated Mark Magsayo has returned to the city of angles after a relaxing, well-earned 19-day vacation in his hometown of Bohol, a paradise disguised as an island province in the Philippines.

But even when he was laregly on “chill” mode, Magsayo assured reporters that he still trained in between and carefully watched what he ate.

Back at the Wild Card gym, his focus now shifts back to training as he is set to defend his WBC featherweight title against Mexican Rey Vargas.

And Vargas is no patsy, holding an unbeaten record of 35-0 with 22 stoppages.

But Magsayo, 24-0 with 16 KOs, welcomes the challenge.

“You have to beat the best to be the best,” said Sean Gibbons, the president of MP Promotions who told reporters at the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) forum that Mark the Magnifico will not duck any challengers coming his way.
