MANILA – Dilao twins Frank Nhiele and France Vhiele scored contrasting wins Sunday to reach the boys’ U18 quarterfinal round in the MAC’s Crank It junior tennis at Olivarez Sports Center in Paranaque City.
The top-ranked Frank Nhiel blanked Jaren Joachim Quintana, 6-0, 6-0, to advance against No. 8 Jaime Reyes, who prevailed over Nathan Ezekiel Andal, 4-6, 6-1, 10-2.
The second-seeded France Vhiele, on the other hand, survived Elijah Okano, 6-1, 4-6, 10-8, to arrange a quarterfinal duel with Miguel Ricardo Lagac III, who eliminated No. 5 Rafa Monte De Ramos, 6-2, 2-6, 12-10.
Fourth seed Julio Yñigo Naredo demolished Shinglee Cai, 6-0, 6-0, to advance against No. 7 Fitzmichael Karl, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Luri Cua.
Meanwhile, Monte De Ramos bounced back in the U16 category where he is the No. 2 seed, beating Rafaello Munozco, 6-3, 3-6, 13-11, to likewise reach the quarterfinal round of the Group 2 event sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association.
Other winners were fourth seed Naredo over Tristan Araneta, 6-1, 6-2; fifth seed Anthony Castigador over Andal, 6-0, 6-2; and Jan Caleb Villeno over John Enzo Fernand Masaga, 6-4, 6-3.
In the girls’ division, second seed Cadee Jan Dagoon conquered Kate Louise Violet Dee, 4-6, 6-3, 13-11, to reach the U16 quarterfinals with No. 3 Maria Astrid Cablitas, No. 4 Catrice Natasha Gabriel, No. 5 Leanne Amanda Barrido, No. 6 Talitha Lopez, No. 7 Jasmine Xyril Solis, Julienne Kylie Cautivo, and Ella Mhae Paglalunan.
