December 10, 2019 – Top-ranked Filipino Tekken 7 players Alexandre “AK” Lavarez and Andreij “Doujin” Albar took the silver and bronze medals in the final day of esports tournament at the San Juan Arena.
AK suffered an upset against Thailand’s Nopparut “Book” Hempamorn in the grand finals of the tournament, with the Thai taking three games to two.
The 18th-ranked Filipino suffered a shock loss earlier in the upper bracket final against the same Thai opponent, who was ranked 23rd overall.
AK faced a familiar friend-turned-foe-for-the-meanwhile in Doujin in the lower bracket finals , with the former winning a close 3-2 series lead.
With the win, the Philippines solidified its standing in esports, with three more gold medals in hand from Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Dota 2, and Starcraft II
