Fencing: Vietnam fencers snatch gold, bronze in men’s epee

December 5, 2019 – Vietnam goes 1-3 in the medal rounds of men’s epee event of fencing at the World Trade Center.

Nguyen Then Nhat grabs the gold medal after a dominant performance versus Malaysia’s Koh I Jie in the final round, 15-5.

Both fencers started slow but Tien Nhat delivered a 9-3 outing in the second bout and never looked back.

Up by nine points at 14-5, Tien Nhat delivered a finishing contact to Koh to seal the deal.

Another Vietnamese took the bronze as Nguyen Phuoc Den loses to Koh in the semifinals, 15-10.

Noelito Jose, Jr. from the Philippines completed the podium as he settled for bronze after a 15-9 defeat to eventual champion Then Nhat.
