FIBA: Jordan Heading, Gilas Pilipinas guards ready to step up for injured teammates

Gilas Pilipinas is now in Clark City, Pampanga and ready to suit up for the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers against South Korea and Indonesia. The team will be without a few players due to injuries but Jordan Heading assures that they are ready to step up.

Among players who will not suit up will be Matt Nieto, Rey Suerte, Dave Ildefonso, Kenmark Carino and Jason Credo.

“I think we all just knew right away, as soon as anyone on the team gets injured, we have that next-man-up mentality,” said Heading. “All our guys are ready to do the jobs that are asked of them, and the jobs that need to be done.”

Heading is very much familiar with international competition as he represented the country with Batang Gilas and is excited to get more experience playing at a higher level along with his teammates.

“The coach, the men’s team (have) obviously been a little quicker than I thought and I’m really thankful for that,” he said.

“I’m really excited for this opportunity, and I had an amazing time with Batang Gilas, and I’m sure my experience here is gonna be even greater.”

Gilas Pilipinas will face South Korea twice on July 16 and 20 in the three-game schedule with Indonesia in between on the 18th.
