Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas announced on their social media pages that Chot Reyes will be the head coach of Gilas Pilipinas in the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup 2022.
“The competition in Jakarta, Indonesia will be crucial to the continuing development of the younger players in preparation for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023,” said SBP in thier statement.
Along with Reyes, his assitant coaches for the FIBA stint will be Nenad Vucinic, Jong Uichco and Sandro Soriano. SBP intends to form a young core of players for the FIBA Asia Cup in preparation for the country’s hosting of the FIBA World Cup in 2023.
“The FIBA Asia Cup will be a great way to measure how much Gilas has improved as they face off once again with New Zealand and India. It will also be a great chance to test our young squad against another top Asian team in Lebanon in the group stage.”
The FIBA Asia Cup happens in Jakarta, Indonesia from July 12 to 24 as Gilas Pilipinas is bracketted along with India, Lebanon and New Zealand in Group D.
