BAGUIO CITY– Hotel Bahia Subic struck gold Friday to break out of a three-way log jam at the second spot for the sole leadership in Seniors Fil A in the 70th Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament at the Baguio Country Club (BCC) golf course.
Danny Morales struck the hardest on a cool as he dug deep with a four-over for 32 points to lead Bahia to a flight best 108 points at the short and tricky par 61 BCC course.
With the 28 of Raoul Jorge, 26 of Joey Nakpil and 22 of Tony Olives, the hoteliers have a two-day total of 209 points, three up on Okinawa Golf Team which is one of the two other teams at the second spot on opening day.
Scorers for the Japan-based team are Tom Dailey (29), Daryll Hatchett (27), Roger Telan (26) and Efren Leonardo (23).
Now at third after sharing the second spot on opening day is Sandigan Golfers which shot 97 points for 198 on the 26 of Roger Yaris, 25 of Wilfredo Bonilla and a pair of 23s from Ron Santos and Alex Go.
Sandigan has tied with Mamala Bay which shot 102 points.
Overnight leader missed the services of Philex top executive Euls Austin who did not play on day two and a 93 point production for 195 and fifth spot.
Over at the Camp John Hay (CJH) golf course, CJH Development Corporation executive Shean Bedi capitalized on his course familiarity to score a three-over for 33 points to lead the co-host team to an eye-popping 116 points and 223 points, for a 26 point spread in Seniors Am A.
Hur Yun had 29, Villamor Bumanglag, and Bonifacio de Castro added 28 and 26, respectively, for the team as they will go to the shorter BCC course.
A distant second is Apo Golfers Club – Leadership which fired 99 for a 197 total in a tie with B & Y Utopia which made 96 points.
Nueva Ecija Seniors is four shot down with 193 after a 99.
Team Na Koa faltered on day two and shot a measly 78 points to see its six-point lead dwindle to a single point over locals Team McDer I.
Michael Perez led Team Na Koa with 23 points to follow up its 97-opener with 68 and 175 total.
Bong Mandapat led Team McDer I with 29 for 83 and 174 total.
Teerifics fired the best flight score of 98 and is just another point behind the leaders at 173.
Quickflo Forwarders had 31 points from Rodolfo Kalinga as the team made a flight best 106 to power its way to top spot after an opening-round good to be tied at the third spot.
Roberto Rapadas had a 27 for the team while Jose Antonio Maddela and Diosdado Bautista chipped in 25 and 23 points, respectively, for Quickflo which now has 190 points.
Nine shots down is overnight leader Forest Hills Golf and Country Club which made 88 for 181, while Drajdan is at the third spot with 174 after a 90. (PNA)
