LOS ANGELES— Sons, like movie sequels, rarely live up to their fathers, so goes the old saying.

But in the pursuit of following in his famous father’s footsteps, Emmanuel Pacquiao Jr’s journey into boxing is looking a lot like a very good production right now.

Jimuel, the son of the famous Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao, won his amateur boxing debut last March 12 at The House of Boxing Gym in San Diego, California last weekend.

He didn’t exactly pulverize Andres Rosales but Jimuel showed enough of his superior technical skills and power to impress the pundits.

Manny, The Pacman himself wasn’t on hand for the younger Pacquiao’s debut. He is back home in the Philippines where he is running for president on the country’s May national elections.

Jimuel instead rolled with a glitzy crew that included Sean Gibbons, the presient of the MP Promotions, and Marvin Somodio, who is the right hand man of Freddie Roach.

After the bout, Senator Pacquiao congratulated Jimuel on Twitter and laced his greetings with a tinge of paternal love, ” I am so proud of you.”

No word yet on when Jimuel will fight next but he vows to stay busy in the coming months. (NRR)
