Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen may be an MVP and one of the league’s top stars, but he’s still carrying a chip on his shoulder. Despite all the success, Allen insists there’s only one real goal driving him — and it has nothing to do with Patrick Mahomes.
During an appearance on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, host Taylor Lewan asked Allen if the “chip” was still there after signing a massive contract and claiming the NFL’s MVP award. Allen didn’t hesitate, saying, “I do not have a picture of that,” making it clear he isn’t chasing Mahomes or anyone else.
Instead, Allen explained that his mindset hasn’t changed. The MVP was a milestone, but not the ultimate destination. “We haven’t won the whole thing yet… The chip’s still on the shoulder, so we got to keep working,” Allen said.

That hunger has been part of his story from the start. Coming out of junior college before transferring to Wyoming, Allen faced constant doubts about his ability to succeed at the next level. Even after being drafted seventh overall in 2018, questions about his accuracy and long-term ceiling followed him into the league.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane has repeatedly pointed to that background as the source of Allen’s relentless edge. In Beane’s view, even with the accolades and financial security, Allen’s mentality hasn’t shifted — he still plays as though he has something to prove.
For Allen, the bar has always been clear: delivering a Super Bowl to Buffalo. The Bills have been one of the NFL’s most competitive teams in recent years but continue to fall short of that ultimate prize. Allen knows personal recognition doesn’t erase that unfinished business.
As the 2025 season approaches, Allen remains locked in. The MVP trophy will sit on the shelf, but his focus is on leading Buffalo to the only achievement that can truly satisfy that chip on his shoulder — a Lombardi Trophy.
