December 7, 2019 – Indonesian karatekas punch gold medals in both the men’s and women’s individual kata event at the World Trade Center.
Krisda Aprilia won the first karatedo medal with her Anan Dai-type routine, earning her 24.38 points.
Nguyen Thi Phuong gave the Indonesian a run of her money as the Vietnamese scored 24.34 points with a Chibana no Kushanku.
Sarah Pangilinan of the Philippines grabbed bronze against Thazin Aye of Myanmar, with the Filipino doing her own performance of Chibana no Kushanku.
Monshicha Tararattanakul get the second bronze for Thailand with a Papuren against Yee Voon Khaw of Malaysia.
Ahmad Yuda win the second gold of the day with his version of Gankaku, earning 25.26 points.
It was a close call, however, as Ooi San Hong of Malaysia grabbed silver after earning 25.0 points.
John Enrico Vasquez handed Philippines a bronze after defeating Pham Truong An of Vietnam.
Lao PDR’s Amkha Vongphachan get the second bronze as he defeated Pikanek Sukyik of Thailand with a Ohan Dai routine.
