Karatedo: Philippines’ Tsukii, Malaysia’s Selvam get kumite golds

December 7, 2019 – The Philippines and Malaysia earned themselves a gold medal after winning the first two kumite events of karatedo at the World Trade Center.

Junna Tsukii of the Philippines win the gold medal match with a close 1-0 win over a gritty Dinh Thi Huong of Vietnam in the women’s under-50 .

Indonesia and Thailand were joint third placers, as their representative karatekas reached the semifinals.

Thai Raksachart Paweena and Indonesian Maya Sheva claimed the bronze medal after losing to Dinh and Tsukii.

Prem Kumar Selvam of Malaysia mauled Norman Montalvo of the Philippines to grab the gold in the men’s under-55 event.

Selvam did not let his Filipino opponent took charge, ending the bout 6-1 on his favor.

Thailand’s Worakan Soda and Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Hai finished with the bronze medal after reaching the semis.
