Mizuno closes on Fil A title in golf tourney

BAGUIO CITY – X13 Mizuno rolled to 103 and 356 three day total for a 27-point lead and practically the champion’s trophy with a day left in Fil A of the 70th Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament at the Baguio Country Club course on Monday.

Gab Macalagum led all scorers with 28 points at the Baguio Country Club, Brizton Aw chipped in 27, Ace Stehmeier made 24, while the pair of Justin Tambunting and King Stehmeier chalked 23 points, the latter did not count as Mizuno made another flight best to up its lead by another five points over Che Lus I.

Despite 30 points from Ray Blas and a 27 from Mike Castro, Jess Quenga and Warren Pelletier counted with their 21 and 20 for Che Lus I’s 98 and 329, which is now only two up on Uragun, which has been making an in-road since day two.

Uragun made 101 to improve to 327 after cutting the lead from eight on day one to five markers while also overtaking the fading Team Surigao I which made 91 points and now at fourth with 318.

A pair of two over or 34 from Jaime Beech and Noel Beleran and Philippine Navy Sunrisers saw its single point lead increase to nine over second-ranked Benlife – Producers Bank in Am A competition at the Camp John Hay course.

Mario Pagunsan and Edgar Barroga added 31 and 25 respectively for the Navy’s 124 and 322 total.

Benlife managed 115 points built around the 32 of Robert John Barretto to remain at the second spot and safe from the Greenwater Golfers which came in with 113 and 297 total, 22 off fourth-ranked Mabalacat City / JA Global.

K & G MGC continued to weave its magic shooting another flight best this time an 88 for 279 and a 21 point lead in Fil D.

Santi Lim scored with 24 points for the team which was leading by 13 on day one, increase it to 14 on day two and further took the game away from the nearest pursuers on the third day.

Macquarie Links Sydney shot an 81 and moved past Team Integral on the second spot with a game remaining. The team from Down Under now has 258 points, two up on Team Integral which made 75.

Team Surigao I shot a 78 and saw its eight-point lead go down to four against Central Florida / VST. Surigao has 249 points, with Florida just whiskers away with 245.

Cool Jocks made the biggest turn around after shooting a flight best 95 for 242 and overtook Rural Bankers I which made 81 for 233 to slip to the fourth spot. Meanwhile, defending champion Manila Southwoods resumed its seven-peat quest on Tuesday at the BCC course. (PNA)
