MQA Honours HELP University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Liew Teik Kooi (Andy)

– The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) celebrated excellence in higher
education at the prestigious MQA Awards 2025, held at the Hotel
Renaissance Kuala Lumpur. Among the evening’s most notable honourees was Prof.
Dr. Liew Teik Kooi (Dr. Andy), Vice Chancellor of HELP University, who was
recognised for his dedication and meaningful contribution as an MQA
Reference Expert.
The
award, inscribed with the citation “Atas Dedikasi Dan Sumbangan Bermakna
Sebagai Pakar Rujuk MQA Dalam Memperkukuh Jaminan Kualiti Pendidikan Tinggi”
(For Dedication and Meaningful Contribution as an MQA Reference Expert in
Strengthening the Quality Assurance of Higher Education), acknowledges Prof.
Dr. Liew’s instrumental role in enhancing Malaysia’s higher education quality
assurance ecosystem.
The
ceremony was graced by key figures in the higher education sector, including: YAB
Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YB
Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, Minister of Higher Education, YB
Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Dato’
Seri Zaini Ujang, Chairman of the MQA Council, Dato’
Professor Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran, CEO of MQA.
Prof.
Dr. Liew has played a longstanding and multifaceted role in advancing quality
assurance in higher education. Since 2007, he has contributed in various key
capacities, including Leadership
in Accreditation and Quality Assurance, Development
of National Policy Frameworks and Expert
Advisory Roles.
He
has been pivotal in the formulation of quality assurance frameworks that now
underpin Malaysia’s recognition in global higher education rankings.
In
his remarks, Prof. Dr. Liew said, “I
am deeply honoured to receive this award. This recognition would not have been
possible without the trust placed in me by MQA and the opportunity to
contribute meaningfully to the national quality assurance agenda. At its core,
quality assurance is built upon the principles of shared responsibility,
continuous quality improvement (CQI), transparent communication, and the
disciplined implementation of well-documented processes.”
This
award serves as a powerful endorsement of HELP University’s leadership in
quality assurance and academic innovation, as well as Prof. Dr. Liew’s
commitment to higher education in Malaysia.
