CHICAGO — After a successful 2023-24 season where they finished No.4 in the Eastern Conference with a 48-34 record and a first round playoffs run, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed Donovan Mitchell to a lucrative three-year contract extension.
Per NBA.com, the deal is worth $150.3 million and will keep the six-time All-Star in Cleveland at least until the 2028-2029 season.
Mitchell, who was a fixture with the Utah Jazz for five seasons before being traded to Cleveland in September of 2022, averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per in 55 games last season. He quickly became the face of the franchise and the leader of its rebuilding core.
Prior to signing his extension, rumors swirled that the dynamic 6-foot-3 guard could go to the bright lights of New York or explore his options in other big NBA markets.
As it turned out, he was happy where he was.
“I love it here,” he told WKYC a few days after inking his newly-minted deal. “I can come in here now and breathe.”
