ORLANDO — Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey anchored a 1-2 assault to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 124-109 win over the Orlando Magic on Friday night at the Kia Center.

Embiid finished with 36 points and 7 rebounds and Maxey ended up with 32 and 5 assists to overwhelm a Magic team that trailed by as many as 22 points.

“That’s a cool stat, for sure. Some incredible players there,” 76ers coach Nick Nurse said of the milestone reached by Embiid and Maxey which matched the feat accomplished by Sixers legends Wilt Chamberlain and Hal Greer.

“I still say there’s a lot more ceiling there, especially with Tyrese. But they should be a pretty good combo for a while.”

Kelly Oubre Jr and Marcus Morris Jr put together a combined 25 points for the hot-shooting Sixers who nailed 13 of 30 threes for a high 43.3 percent rate.

After scoring 57 points in the second and third quarters, the Sixers took an 89-76 lead entering the fourth quarter, a big enough lead that did not require Embiid to return to play.

Wendell Carter Jr. had 25 points and 11 rebounds for the Magic. Jalen Suggs added 16 points and a pair of assists while Paolo Banchero finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.

The 76ers won for the ninth straight time on the road with Embiid in the lineup, a feat that impressed Magic head coach Jamahl Mosely.

“He’s the (2021-22) MVP for a reason. You can have every scheme, but you know he’s getting to the area. You put a hand on him and it turns into a foul. If you don’t put a hand on him, he’s making that 15, 17-footer that he’s shooting at a 60 percent clip.”
