Meanwhile, Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said during a press conference that 12,000 athletes, coaches, and school officials will join Tuesday’s closing ceremony which is expected to be graced by Vice President and outgoing Education Secretary Sara Duterte.

Although no confirmation was received by the city government from the Office of the Vice President, Garcia said Duterte’s security group and her protocol officer are in the city to prepare for the closing rites.

The acting mayor also thanked the provincial government for the PHP8 million pledge to fund the closing event at the Cebu City Sports Center.

“The city government has been able to save PHP8 million because the province (of Cebu) will shoulder the cost of the closing ceremony,” he said.

The student-athletes are expected to have a memorable closing ceremony as the provincial government will treat them to a colorful and lively “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo” and an innovative show of lights to highlight the event.

Pasigarbo will feature more than 20 festivals showcasing the best of Cebu. (PNA)
