DAVAO CITY — Former light flyweight titlist champion Randy “Razor” Petalcorin of General Santos City is now in Japan to challenge World Boxing Council World light flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji of Japan on Dec. 23 at Arena Yokohama in Kanagawa, Japan.
The 27-year-old Petalcorin (32W-3L-1D, 23KO) arrived together with managers Jim Claude Manangquil and Peter Maniatis.
“This time I will do everything to make things right. I have trained hard and is in top condition despite the short notice”, said Petalcorin.
For this year, Petalcorin scored twice, starting with a TKO in the 3rd round over Worawatchai Boonjan of Thailand last June 9 at the TV 5 Station in Quezon City.
He followed it up with a unanimous decision against Reymark Taday of Cotabato on Oct. 20 in General Santos City. Petalcorin appeared for his media workout and appeared to be in great shape.
He is just two pounds above the weight limit and will not have any problem making weight on time. Expectations are high since Petalcorin blewed up his recent world title opportunity losing against Felix Alvarado.
Teraji, on the other hand, has never been beaten with 16 wins and nine knockouts. He first won the title with a majority decision over Ganigan Lopez of Mexico in 2017 and defended it six times.
He last fight was against Jonathan Taconing of the Philippines with a TKO in the 4th round last July 12 in Osaka.
