In the midst of Team Pilipinas’ triumph in the Tokyo Olympics, Pinay classic powerlifter Joyce Gail Reboton organized her own fundraising drive for the upcoming campaign at the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Sweden next month.
Reboton, who is currently Ranked #1 among all the Filipino powerlifters and #4 in the women’s -76 kg in the International Powerlifting Federation Good Lift (IPF GL) points, along with her coach Wilford Capulong has set up a fundraiser (https://gogetfunding.com/support-joyce-world-classic-powerlifting/), not just for her participation in the biggest powerlifting competition this year, but also give awareness to the Filipino sporting community on the sport of powerlifting that has 3 events: squat, bench press and dead lift.
Reboton gained the spot in the World Championships after dominating the 2021 National Open and Age-group Championships last month and she has training regularly in a rented gym with equipments donated by Sarangani Gov. Steve Solon.
As of posting time, Reboton’s fundraiser has raised ₱174,953.10 coming from her supporters thru GoGetFunding, bank & G-Cash accounts, more than half of the goal (target amount of ₱328,244.11) to cover all financial expenses in the Sweden trip including visa application, airfare, meal allowance, accomodation, among others.
Reboton also hopes that the strength sport of Powerlifting will gain its winning momentum internationally like Olympic weightliffting where Hidilyn Diaz bagged the country’s 1st gold medal.
“Para sa akin, gusto ko makilala ang powerlifting as a different sport. Itatayo ko yung bandera ng powerlifting para makilala siya para mabigyan ng priority.”, Reboton said in an interview with PTV Sports.
