MANILA – As part of the National Disability Rights Week, the Philippine Sports Commission will hold the “Walk, Run, and Roll” fun run on July 20 at the University of the Philippines Academic Oval in Quezon City.
Around 1,000 runners, including PWDs, their families, and advocates are expected to join the event in partnership with the National Council on Disability Affairs.
Thrower Cendy Asusano, an Asean Para Games multiple gold medalist who qualified for the 2024 Paris Paralympics, will also join the fun run.
“It fosters inclusivity, promotes physical fitness, and encourages community engagement, particularly among persons with disabilities and their families,” said Commissioner Walter Torres, who is in charge of the project.
Last June 19, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. declared July 17-23 as National Disability Rights Week through Proclamation No. 597, affirming the country’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
Chairman Richard Bachmann said the PSC is committed to using sports as a means to raise public awareness and advocate for meaningful causes.
“Our advocacy indeed is welcomed by everyone and I am excited for the positive results this project can produce in the long run,” he said. (PNA)
