MANILA — Kiefer Ravena makes a return to Gilas Pilipinas Men as he was named into the pool on Monday night.
“The SBP has approved and got the Southeast Asian Games’ approval for him to be on the 15 [-man pool],” coach Tim Cone confirmed.
Team manager Gabby Cui added, “The SBP said that he can join.”
Ravena was actually present, although as a spectator, when Gilas Men faced Alab Pilipinas in a tuneup game at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City.
Ravena will replace Jayson Castro, who suffered a minor strain in his right Achilles during a TNT KaTropa game in the PBA Governors’ Cup on October 25.
Interestingly enough, Castro hurt his Achilles against Ravena and the NLEX Road Warriors.
Castro will be sidelined for up to six weeks, prompting Cone to replace him.
Should he make the final 12-man lineup for the Southeast Asian Games men’s basketball event from December 5-10 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Ravena will have a chance to capture his fifth consecutive gold medal. (PNA)
