The Dallas Mavericks have decided to shut down rookie sensation Cooper Flagg for the rest of the NBA Summer League, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, played just two games in Las Vegas, with his final appearance coming in Saturday’s 76–69 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. He bounced back in that game with an impressive 31-point performance against No. 2 pick Dylan Harper, shooting 10-of-21 from the field.

The showing was a marked improvement from Flagg’s debut on Thursday, where he managed just 10 points on 5-of-21 shooting in a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers.

“It’s a new environment, new setting,” Flagg said after Saturday’s game. “They want to see me be aggressive, and I think I did that a lot better today—getting to the line, getting fouled. That helped me settle in early. Still missed a bunch of free throws, though. I know my mom probably wasn’t too happy about that.”

Mavericks Summer League coach Josh Broghamer praised the 6-foot-9 forward’s maturity, noting Flagg “just continues to make the right plays,” particularly highlighting his contributions off the ball.

The team’s decision to end Flagg’s summer campaign was first reported Sunday by veteran NBA insider Marc Stein.
