Rugby: PH men’s team drubs Malaysia for gold; women’s team tackles silver

December 8, 2019 – The Philippines’ men and women rugby teams delivered medals for the country on the conclusion of the rugby sevens events at the Clark Parade Grounds in Pampanga.

The Volcanoes, as they were known, claimed the first-place finish after blanking Malaysia with a 19-0 performance.

The first half spelled the fate for both teams, with the Philippines overpowering their opponents 14-0.

It was a more rigid Malaysian defense in the second but the pesky defense of the Filipinos deny the visitors a single point.

The Lady Volcanoes, however, settled for silver after losing to Thailand 17-7.

The first half was all in Thailand’s control, denying any chances of a Philippine scoring opportunity and ending the first part with a 10-0 lead.

It was only in the second half when the Philippines found their rhythm but the Thais counter them and erasing all hopes of a gold medal.
