Sambo: Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia clinch golds.

December 5, 2019 – Two Filipinos, a Singaporean, and an Indonesian grab the first four gold medals of sambo at the Angeles University Foundation Gymnasium.

Chino Sy exerted his dominance over Weng Luen Gary Chow of Singapore in the under-82 kilogram male sport sambo category. Sy outsocred Chow, 4-1.

Indonesian Rio Bahari and Sonram Jenghor of Thailand shared bronze in the same category.

Mark Edward Striegl made it two for the Filipinos as he won in the under-74 kilogram male combat sambo.

This is after an 8-0 dominant performance against Ashvin Singh Jaswant Singh of Singapore.

Arthit Khuansatan of Thailand and Deni Fadhillah of Indonesia took the bronze medals after losing in the semis.

Singapore’s Muhammad Nazri Sutari added one to his country’s tally after winning the under 82-kilogram male combat sambo event.

Sutari defeated Indonesia’s Jason Sim with a 5-2 outing.

Patrick Manicad from the Philippines and Wajana Kiewon of Thailand took home the bronze for their semifinal finishes.

Indonesia clinched the final gold medal for the day as Senie Kristian dominated the under 90-kilogram male combat sambo event.

Kristian won convincingly, 7-3 against Malaysian finalist Izzat Afandi who took silver.

Thailand’s Natthapong Leepaiboon and Jose Rene Mondejar III from the Philippines claimed the bronze after losing in the semis.

The Philippines led the sambo athletes with two golds and two bronzes, while Singapore has one gold, two silvers, and a bronze to place second.

Indonesians have a gold and a silver, plus two bronzes to settle third overall.

Malaysia has one silver medal in its name, while Thailand has three bronze medal finishes.
