Suarez returns to pro boxing

DAVAO CITY — Charly “King’s Warrior” Suarez of San Isidro, Davao del Norte is coming back to professional boxing after a short stint in the 30th SEA Games.

The 31-year-old Suarez won the super featherweight gold medal in the SEA Games held at the Philippine International convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City. Suarez, an orthodox boxer, is now back in pro boxing with a record of three wins – all knockouts, with no loss or draw.

He will be fighting Dave Barlas of General Santos City on Feb. 7 in Ilocos Sur under the promotion of Cucuy Elorde of UKC Pro Boxing Edition.

Suarez started his pro career on Jan. 16, 2019 in Cagayan de Oro City with a TKO in the 2nd round against Ernesto Cagampang of Davao City.

He followed it up with a 2nd round knockout against Justin Cabarles of Digos last March 5 to win the vacant MinProBA lightweight title in Brauli Dujali, Davao del Norte.

Suarez then TKO’d Virgil Puton of Polomolok in the 1st round last Aug. 24 in Manila.

Barlas, on the other hand, won two out of three bouts last year.

The 21-year-old orthodox boxer first won by a knockout over Alvin Bais of Cotabato in the 2nd round last Feb. 13 in Buluan, Maguidanao.

But he lost by a unanimous decision to Aljum Pelecio of Misamis Oriental last May 23 in TV5 Studio, Quezon City.

Barlas won again in his 3rd fight against Rodel Tejares of Bukidnon by a unanimous decision last July 11 in Malungon. (PNA)
