Taekwondo: Thailand, Philippines share golds in men’s division

December 8, 2019 – It was Thailand and the Philippines in the men’s division of taekwondo held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Thailand grabbed the first gold medal of the day for the men’s division as Lakchai Hauihongthong scored a close win against Arven Alcantara of the Philippines in the featherweight category.

Hauihongthong led the first round with a 13-5 advantage, but the Filipino staged an 8-1 outing in the second to put the match at 14-13.

It was a back-and-forth affair for the two taekwondo athletes, but Hauihongthong scored the final blow to seal the deal 24-22.

The Philippines scored revenge on the Thais at the lightweight division as Dave Cea scored a 10-5 victory over Nutthawee Klompong.

Cea secured a 10-0 lead throughout the first two rounds, but Klompong scored 5 to trim the lead.

It wasn’t enough however as Klompong rans out of time and ended the bout 10-5 in favor of the Filipino.

It was a one-sided affair in the welterweight division as Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison scored a 30-8 win over Malaysia’s Joshua Abdullah.

It was a close first round with Morrison leading 5-3, but the Filipino bursted with a 24-8 second round beating of the Malaysian.

Morrison added six more to his tally, thus ending the match in favor of the Filipino.

Nattapat Nattapat Tantramart scored the heavyweight gold medal for Thailand against Kristopher Robert Uy of the Philippines.

It was a one-sided affair once again, with the Filipino on the wrong side of the bout as the Thai dealt a 17-4 beating to the host’s bet.
