Tennis: Indonesia wins two, Philippines get one in doubles finals

December 7, 2019 – Indonesia and the Philippines emerged victorious in the finals of the doubles event of tennis at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The Indonesian duo of Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies swept the women’s finals with a 6-3, 6-3 finish off Thailand’s Peangtran Plipuech and Tamarine Tanasugarn.

Vietnam’s Phan Thi Thanh Binh and Tran Thuy Thanh Truc, and Thailand’s Patcharin Cheapchandej and Luksika Kumkhun both took the bronze.

It was a sure 1-2 finish for the Philippines in the men’s double, but the tandem of Francis Casey Alcantara and Jason Patrombon reigned supreme.

The duo sweeps compatriots Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales, Jr., 7-6, 7-5 to get the gold medal.

Two Vietnam teams get the bronze medal, as Le Quoc Khanh and Ly Hoang Nam losing to Huey and Gonzales, while Danile Cao Nguyen and Nguyen Van Phuong suffered a 2-0 defeat to Patrombon and Alcantara.

Indonesia got another gold, this time in the mixed doubles category after a three-set affair against Thailand.

Aldila Sutjiadi and Christopher Rungkat defeated Thailand’s Tanagusarn and Sanchai Ratiwatana 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Indonesia’s Gumulya and David Susanto grabbed third place, as well as Thailand’s Cheapchandej and Ratiwatana’s brother Sonchat.
