TV5 to broadcast SEA Games basketball, esports events

MANILA — TV5 will be among the main Philippine broadcasters for the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games from Nov. 30-Dec. 11 in various locations in Luzon.

The broadcasting giant formally announced its participation in bringing the games to national television in a press conference at Hotel Raffles Makati Ballroom on Monday.

TV5 president Jane Basas said the basketball competitions, both in the 3×3 and five-on-five games, will be aired live on TV5, while its sister station, 5 Plus, will bring the esports competition live.

Basas added that nine other sports will be aired on free TV through TV5 and 5 Plus.

To further bring more in-depth broadcasting of the games, Oscar Reyes, the senior vice president of Smart Telecommunications, the main presenter of the broadcast, said experts in their respective sports will join the broadcasting panel to discuss what went down in the games.

“We actually have a big pool of analysts and anchors for the SEA Games who will be covering the events,” Reyes said.

“Basically, anyone who has expertise in the different sports that we will cover in the SEA Games, we’ve been in touch with them, and you’re gonna hear their voices on TV,” he added.

He specifically cited that Coaches Ryan and Allan Gregorio, Tony Dela Cruz, and Alex Compton will be among those who will be in the basketball panel.

The SEA Games coverage will also be aired on pay TV via Cignal. In fact, three new channels dedicated to the Cignal broadcast of the meet will be launched.

Reyes added that live streams of the games on ESPN 5’s Facebook and YouTube accounts will be put up as well. (PNA)
