MANILA — The Philippine national under-22 men’s football team scored its first win in the Copa Paulino Alcantara after edging Green Archers United, 1-0, at the Aboitiz Pitch on Sunday night.
Chima Uzoka scored the lone goal of the match in the 51st minute, heading the ball in off a corner kick.
Following Mendiola’s stunning 2-2 draw against Ceres Negros on Saturday night, the U22 Azkals are now on top of Group A with three points, while GAU crashed to the bottom of the group without a point.
The U22 Azkals are using the said tournament, the Philippines Football League’s cup competition, as part of their training for the Southeast Asian Games from Nov. 26-Dec. 10. (PNA)
