SILANG, Cavite — Vietnam women’s football head coach, Mai Duc Chung, could not help but express his rave for the Philippine women’s football team for its sudden rise into Southeast Asia’s football elites.
“You have a lot of improvement especially after the recent events,” Mai told Let Dimzon, the head coach of the team known as the Malditas, in the pre-tournament press conference for the Southeast Asian Games women’s football event on Monday at Whitewoods Convention Center here.
This year was a banner one for the Malditas.
After coming just close to clinching a spot in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, they made the semifinals of the AFF Women’s Championship, making them one of the teams to watch out for in the SEA Games tournament.
The Malditas are grouped in Group A with Myanmar and Malaysia, and on paper, the Malditas have a chance to once again qualify for the semifinals.
The Malditas will begin their SEA Games quest on Tuesday at the Biñan Football Stadium against Myanmar. (PNA)
