VisMin Cup: Mandaue survives late Dumaguete rally, wins by six

CEBU – The KCS Computer Specialist Mandaue squad recorded a narrow 73-79 win over the Dumaguete Warriors during the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Visayas leg in the Alcantara Civic Center.

The game started as an even contest, with both teams scoring 21 points by the end of the first quarter. Dumaguete’s Mark Anthony Doligon led the scoring with 11 points. The period looked to end in favor of the Warriors, but Mandaue’s Michole Solera scored a buzzer-beater to even the scoreline.

The second quarter saw the KCS Computer Specialist contingent turn the tables on the Dumaguete Warriors. Gryann Mendoza led the Mandaue surge with 11 points to his name, as his side cruised to a 10-point lead coming into the second half.

The momentum continued with the Mandaue squad, as they took a 13-point advantage towards the end of the third quarter.

The Dumaguete squad tried to fight back with a late rally, but the Mandaue side weathered the storm and finished the game with a six-point lead.

Mandaue’s superior field goal percentage helped them earn the victory, as they posted a 45% return, as compared to Dumaguete’s 36%. The KCS Computer Specialist team also recorded 54 rebounds to strengthen their offensive charge.

Gryann Mendoza continued his scintillating form with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Mandaue side. Following suit is Rhaffy Octobre, with 13 points, nine rebounds, and three assists to his name.

Jaybie Mantilla finished the game with 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists for Dumaguete. Mark Anthony Doligon and Ronald Roy also contributed 13 points each in a losing effort.

KCS Computer Specialist Mandaue head into the second round of the Visayas Leg with a game against the ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu City Heroes on April 23, at 7:00PM. Meanwhile, the Dumaguete Warriors look to return to winning ways as they also face the Lapu-Lapu City contingent on April 24, at 5:00PM. Both games will be held at the Alcantara Civic Center.
