CEBU – The MJAS Zenith Talisay Aquastars recorded their fifth straight victory in an 85-65 win over the Tabogon Voyagers during the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Visayas Leg in the Alcantara Civic Center.
The first quarter started as a tightly-contested match, with Tabogon’s Arvie Bringas scoring 8 points. Paolo Hubalde, Patrick Cabahug, and Jhaymo Eguilos gave Talisay a slight edge with 4 points each to give their team a 10-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Voyagers reduced the lead to five points as the match approached the second half. Gayford Rodriguez came into the game and sparked the Voyagers’ charge with seven points by the end of the second period.
The third quarter saw Talisay dominate the proceedings, as they finished the period with a whopping 23-point lead.
The match ended with Talisay posting a comfortable win, as a 20-point gap separated the two squads.
The win was cemented by Talisay’s impressive field goal percentage, as they recorded a 48% return, beating Tabogon’s 37%. The Aquastars also showed superior outside shooting, as they converted 26% of their shots from the three-point line.
Talisay’s Egie Boy Mojica and Patrick Cabahug led their team with 13 points each. Not far behind is Jaymar Gimpayan, with 9 points and nine rebounds to his name.
Gayford Rodriguez finished the game with 18 points and five rebounds for Tabogon. Arvie Bringas also contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort.
MJAS Zenith Talisay Aquastars continue their campaign with a match against the Tubigon Bohol Mariners on April 22, at 4:00PM. The Tabogon Voyagers will look to bounce back in their next game against the ARQ Lapu-Lapu City Heroes in the 7:00PM fixture of the same day. Both matches will be held at the Alcantara Civic Center, in Cebu City.
