MANILA — The Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3×3 will be adding a women’s division for its 2020 season starting next month.
Ronald Mascariñas, the owner of the league, announced the development on Tuesday in a press conference at the Chooks-To-Go head office in Pasig.
“We’re looking at adding a 3×3 league for women so that para sa (by) 2024, before the Olympics, our target is for us not to play in the Olympic Qualifying [Tournament]. Our target for men’s and women’s is automatic qualification,” Mascariñas said.
The previous season of the Chooks 3×3 league, in which its first three conferences were designated as quests, qualifying tournaments for challengers and world tour masters, by FIBA and the final tournament, the MelMac Cup was classified as a Level 5 tournament, was meant for the Philippines to rack up enough points for the country to qualify for the OQT.
The Philippines achieved the feat by finishing at No. 20 in the men’s rankings, well within the Top 24 cutoff for the 2020 OQT.
But now, Mascariñas’ goal is for both Gilas Men and Gilas Women to qualify outright for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“In the next four years, we should land in the Top 3,” he further said. (PNA)
