MANILA – Filipino Karl Eldrew Yulo bagged the men’s floor exercise bronze medal in the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships Sunday at the Manila Marriott Hotel, Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.
Yulo scored 13.733 points to secure third place, finishing behind China’s Lanbin Yang, who topped the event with 13.833 points, and Italy’s Simone Speranza, who posted 13.766 points.
The 17-year-old younger brother of Paris Olympics double-gold medalist Carlos Yulo, earlier placed second in Friday’s qualification round with 14.233 points, trailing AIN (Individual Neutral Athlete) Arsenii Dukhno (14.500).
Karl Eldrew will continue his medal bid on Monday when he competes in the vault and horizontal bar finals, the last events of the five-day tournament.
He previously won a silver medal in vault at the Asian Junior Championships in Jecheon, South Korea last June.
Meanwhile, Japanese Yume Minamino tallied 53.632 points to win the women’s individual all-around gold medal.
French Elena Colas took the silver medal with a total of 53.298 points while Japanese Misa Nishiyama (53.066) settled for the bronze medal.
In vault, American Lavienna Crain scored 13.683 points to win the gold medal over Nishimaya (13.633) and Romanian Alexia Blanaru (13.566). (PNA)
