Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete delivered a commanding performance to stop Eduardo “Sugar” Nunez in the 11th round on Saturday night in Glendale, Arizona, unifying the WBO and IBF junior lightweight world titles. What many expected to be a competitive clash turned into a one-sided showcase of Navarrete’s power, speed, and relentless pressure.
Navarrete (40-2-1, 33 KOs) controlled the bout from the outset, steadily breaking down Nunez with sharp combinations to the head and body. By the seventh round, the Mexican champion accelerated his attack, repeatedly landing clean power shots that left Nunez (No. 6 at 130 pounds) increasingly desperate for a fight-changing punch.

The damage was evident by the ninth round, when Nunez’s right eye was swollen completely shut. Despite his courage and willingness to continue, referee Benjamin Rodriguez halted the fight in the 11th round on the advice of the ringside physician to protect the challenger’s health. Navarrete landed an impressive 182 of 381 power punches, a 48% connect rate, underscoring his dominance across all ranges.
Afterward, Navarrete admitted it was difficult to see a friend suffering in the ring but stressed the need to remain focused until the end. Nunez, gracious in defeat, praised Navarrete as the division’s toughest fighter and said he respected the stoppage decision.
With the unified crown secured, Navarrete could pursue bouts with fellow champions O’Shaquie Foster or Lamont Roach. However, he emphasized rest and celebration before considering his next move.
