Malik Monk couldn’t miss from deep, and the Sacramento Kings made sure Luka Dončić’s big night didn’t go to waste.
Monk drilled seven 3-pointers and finished with 26 points as the Kings defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 124–112 on Monday night at Golden 1 Center. DeMar DeRozan led all scorers with 32 points and added six assists, while Russell Westbrook chipped in 22 points and seven assists against his former team.
The win snapped a long drought for Sacramento at home against Los Angeles. It marked the Kings’ first home victory over the Lakers since March of last year and gave them their second straight win after a seven-game losing streak.
Luka Dončić did everything he could to keep the Lakers in the game, pouring in 42 points with seven rebounds and eight assists. It was his seventh 40-point performance of the season as the NBA’s leading scorer. LeBron James added 22 points but struggled from outside, missing all five of his 3-point attempts.
Los Angeles started strong, but the momentum quickly shifted. Sacramento erased an eight-point deficit in the first quarter and surged ahead late in the second when Monk buried his fifth 3-pointer to give the Kings a 57–41 lead.
Dončić and James carried the Lakers in the first half, combining for 38 of the team’s 54 points, but Sacramento took control after the break. The Kings opened the third quarter with a 19–6 run and stretched the lead to 20.
The Lakers made one last push early in the fourth, cutting the deficit to seven, but Monk answered with another big triple to seal it.
The Lakers host Atlanta on Tuesday, while the Kings welcome New York on Wednesday.
