MMA: Eduard Folayang Seeks A Rematch Against Eddie Alvarez

Former ONE lightweight champion Eduard Folayang looks to avenge his loss against Eddie Alvarez

After an impressive victory during the legend vs legend kickboxing battle with John Wayne Parr, former ONE Championship lightweight titleholder Eduard Folayang is looking for his next challenge.

The 37-year-old Filipino fighter is now seeking another crack at Eddie Alvarez. Both fighters first engaged in ONE Championship: Dawn of Heroes back in August 2019 during the Wold Grand Prix Semi-Finals. Folayang lost to the American fighter via rear-naked choke at the 2:16 mark of the first round.

It will be an honor for Folayang to fight Alvarez again and looking back, the Filipino MMA fighter certainly felt that he could have done better.

“Of course, that’s a great opportunity for me, it’s a great fight if that happens. It would be awesome if Alvarez vs. Folayang II does happen especially on my part. I really feel that I could’ve done something more in our previous fight,” said Folayang.

The 38-year-old veteran fighter of Team Lakay would love to correct his mistakes. In doing so, Folayang knows he needs to patch a few holes in his fighting style if a fight against Alvarez is granted by ONE Championship.

“I feel that I have to drastically improve my striking and undergo an intense training camp if that fight with Eddie eventually happens,” said Folayang.

Since his fight against Alvarez, Folayang won over Amarsanaa Tsogookhuu in a second-round knockout but that victory was followed up with a four-fight losing streak.

On the other hand, Alvarez had four fights in ONE Championship and his only victory came against Folayang. His most recent matchup was against Ok Rae Yoon back in April 28 with the former UFC competitor losing via unanimous decision.
