INDIANAPOLIS — Stephen Curry got hot when he needed to and went to beat Sabrina Ionescu by a whisker in their 3-point face-off on Saturday night.

Final score 29-26.

Both stars played for their respective charities in a friendly showdown dubbed as a him-versus-her event pitting the widely popular NBA star and one of the faces of the WNBA.

The contest was held as a sidelight to the All-Star Weekend festivities in Indianapolis where the 3-point competition and Slam Dunk championships were also being held along with the Skills Challenge.

Ionescu annexed the WNBA’s 3-point crown at its All-Star Weekend last year with a record 37 points, crushing Curry’s NBA shootout mark of 31 points. It became the flashpoint of a plan to arrange a showdown between the two.

“It’s an opportunity to do something that’s never been done before. It’s special,” Curry told reporters during his media availability session on Saturday morning.

“Hopefully, this isn’t the last time we do this,” Ionescu said of the close encounter with the Warrior king..

Considering the support it had generated form the fans, there probably would be a next time. Curry’s prize was a championship belt, with images of goats — as in GOATs — on either side.

Curry is arguably the best shooter ever, but Ionescu almost gave him a run for his shooitng title.
