ORLANDO — The Boston Celtics eliminated the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday at TD Garden in Boston.
Celtics forward Jayson Tatum grabbed 13 rebounds in addition to notching a Game 7 scoring record of 51 points, a record previously held by Steph Curry’s 50-point Game 7 in Sacramento two weeks ago. Jaylen Brown added 25 points and six rebounds while Malcolm Brogdon contributed 12 points.
The game was close at halftime with Boston leading, 55-52.
However, the Celtics dominated the third quarter with 33 points. The Sixers only scored 10 points the entire period.
MVP Joel Embiid only scored 15 points on 5-18 shooting for Philadelphia. Tobias Harris scored 19 points and Tyrese Maxey recorded 17 points.
Voicing his disappointment, Sixers coach Doc Rivers said “I thought we had the right group. I really did. We played great all year and this loss absolutely diminishes what we did this year in some way…I thought we took another step this season. And then tonight I think we took a step backward. But that’s OK. That happens, too.”
