MANILA — Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) chairman, challenged the 527 workers to give their best to assure the hosting of the 30th SEA Games would be successful.
Cayetano made his call during a pep rally held at the Cayetano Sports Complex last Saturday to motivate the workforce of the biennial meet which the country will host for the fourth time from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 this year.
“Kung ano ang ating itatanim, yun ang ating aanihin (We reap what we sow). We worked so hard for more than a year, itanim po natin itong (We planted this) SEA Games and the coming years and decades aanihin ng ating mga (we will reap) young athletes and their next generation,” Cayetano said.
Cayetano also expressed his appreciation for the men and women behind the Phisgoc organization.
The 527 members of the event workforce will be deployed in various venues in Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, Subic, and New Clark City Sports Hub in Capas, Tarlac.
At least 10,000 athletes and officials from 11 participating SEA Games members will compete for in a record 529 events from 56 sports.
The opening ceremony of the SEA Games is set Nov. 30 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan while the closing rite will happen at the newly-built 20,000-seater New Clark City Athletics Stadium.
Phisgoc Chief Operating Officer Ramon Suzara said the Games’ competition, however, will begin much earlier with polo scheduled to start on Nov. 22 while men’s football, netball, and floorball will kick off November 25.
“We appreciate your work. This (pep rally) is to celebrate you. We are all part of history,” Suzara said. (PR)
