Surfing: Casogay, Anwar secure men’s gold in La Union

December 8, 2019 – The Philippines and Indonesia secures the gold medals in the final day of surfing competitions at San Juan, La Union.

Roger Casogay scored the gold medal over compatriot Rogelio Esquivel Jr. in the longboard competition.

Casogay, who became viral on saving his Indonesian opponent instead of chasing the gold, tallied 14.5 points, good for gold.

Esquivel meanwhile scored a close 14.2 points, capped by a 6.95 second score.

It was all-Indonesia in the finals of the shortboard competition, with Hairil Anwar battling Rio Waida for the gold.

Anwar however surfed to victory with a 12.90 final score, compared to Waida’s 10.4.
