CHICAGO – In the space if 17 days, with the Season 50 PBA Governors’ Cup set to start on July 10, Blackwater star Sedrick Barefield is set to become one of the most sought-after restricted free agents in league history.
With so many unknowns regarding his immediate future, the No.2 overall pick of the 2024 PBA Draft spoke to SOorts On Air on Sunday to clear some of the air.
Here’s what the No.2 overall pick of the 2024 Season 49 PBA Rookie Draft had to say.

SPORTS ON AIR: After two years at Blackwater, do you feel it’s time to move on?
BAREFIELD: “First off, I’m grateful to Blackwater for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to compete in the PBA. Right now, I’m focused on letting the business side play out. “Whatever happens, I’ll continue to be a professional and give everything I have.”
SPORTS ON AIR: To varying degrees, teams have shown interest in you. How flattering has all this attention been?
BAREFIELD: “It’s definitely humbling. As a player, you work hard every day honing your game earns respect around the league. I’m thankful for any team that sees value in what I can bring, but I’m staying focused on the process and letting my agent handle the discussions.”

SPORTS ON AIR: If no deal is done, is your next move re-signing with Blackwater?
BAREFIELD: “Right now, I’m keeping an open mind. There are a lot of moving parts, and we’re still working through everything. I’ll sit down with my agent (Reynaldo Punongbayan) and make the best decision when the time comes.”
SPORTS ON AIR: Do you have a preferred destination?
BAREFIELD: “I’m excited about any opportunity where I can compete, help a team win, and continue growing as a player. “I’m not focused on one destination. I’m focused on finding the best fit.”
