Women’s Weightlifting: Gold Medal outing for Philippine’s Hidalyn Diaz

MANILA, Philippines- The perfect balance of strength and poise were on superb display for Juliana Klarisa (Bronze Medal, Indonesia), Nguyen Thi Thuy (Silver Medal, Vietnam), and Hidalyn Diaz (Gold Medal, Philippines) in the Women’s 55kg Weightlifting Category of the 2019 South East Asian Games on Monday (Dec. 2, 2019).

It was a showcase of experience for the Philippine’s very own 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist Hidilyn Diaz living up to expectations with a Gold Medal giving the host country their 38th of the tournament.

Diaz tallied a total of 221kgs after lifting the heaviest weight with her 91kg snatch in the second attempt and 120kgs clean and jerk in her third attempt.

With a spectacular Silver medal outing, Thi Thuy Nguyen of Vietnam lifted 82kg in snatch and 115kg for a total of 197kg. Nguyen’s second-place finish added Vietnam’s 20th Silver Medal.

The Bronze Medal was earned by Juliana Klarisa of Indonesia giving them their 12th Bronze of the tournament.
