Wrestling: Morte takes silver in men’s freestyle

December 10, 2019 – Filipino wrestler Jhonny Morte adds a silver medal to the Philippines’ tally inside the Angeles University Foundation Gymnasium in Pampanga.

Morte took the silver after losing the final bout to eventual gold medalist Nguyen Xuan Dinh of Vietnam in the 65-kilogram freestyle event.

The Filipino freestyle wrestler earlier dealt a 10-0 win on Myanmar’s Lar Htaung Lyan in the first round, before defeating Thai Saksit Jhanom 5-3 in round two.

Morte then dominated Cambodia’s Thoun Chon to set up a gold medal date with Xuan Dinh in the final.

Morte’s silver medal finish was the tenth silver medal of the Philippines in wrestling alongside two golds and a bronze.
